The competition is open to students at upper secondary level.
Republic Polytechnic, 9 Woodlands Ave 9, Singapore 738964
Competitors will be provided with a one-day complimentary workshop to prepare them for the competition.
To be announced.
The NSI competition comprises of two challenges. Competitors will not be desk-bound, passively staring at computer screens. They can expect a high level of action, including moving around to find clues or secure devices, and high pressure scenarios that need intense discussion and analysis.
For this challenge, competitors are placed in a scenario where a computer crime has been committed. They are required to apply forensically sound techniques to secure the crime scene and to ensure that no evidence is disturbed or contaminated. They are also required to gather digital evidence from the hard disk drives. The evidence gathered is then used to build a case against the suspect.
Competitors are judged on how well they secure the scene and how well they gather digital evidence.
For this challenge, competitors are required to weed out rouge Access Points (APs) planted by someone who has infiltrated the network. They are required to build a long range antenna (cantenna) from scratch and use it together with a wireless sniffing utility to locate the rouge APs.
Competitors are judged based on the range of their cantenna and on the speed with which they locate the rouge APs.
To prepare for the challenge, all competitors will be eligible for a complimentary 1 day hands-on workshop, worth an estimated $800 when you register for the competition.
